Nature+ Targets for Monash University
Natural Capital and Climate, in partnership with Mosaic Insights and Eco Futures, developed measurable Nature+ targets for Monash University’s Greater Melbourne campuses. Building on the team’s earlier Stage 1 baseline surveys, the project translated evidence on biodiversity, tree canopy and thermal performance into practical targets for planning, implementation and reporting.
Monash University engaged Natural Capital and Climate (NCC), in partnership with Mosaic Insights and EcoFutures, to develop a suite of measurable Nature+ targets for its Clayton, Peninsula, Caulfield and Parkville campuses. Building on our earlier Nature+ Stage 1 Baseline Survey, the project was commissioned to convert baseline evidence into clear, actionable targets that could guide planning, prioritise investment and support annual and five-year reporting.
We applied a structured target design process grounded in the Stage 1 survey findings. Through program logic development, multidisciplinary workshops and iterative target refinement, we established three integrated Nature+ targets for habitat, tree canopy and thermal performance. Each target was designed to be measurable, practical and tailored to the ecological context of each campus.
The resulting framework provides Monash University with a practical roadmap for implementing its Nature+ program. By linking measurable targets with future planning, capital works and green infrastructure initiatives, we enabled coordinated decision-making, consistent performance monitoring and a clear pathway towards nature-positive campuses.
